Donauwellen (Waves of the Danube) is the most celebrated waltz by Romanian composer Iosif Ivanovici and remains one of the finest examples of the late nineteenth-century salon waltz. Composed in 1880, the work quickly gained international popularity for its graceful melodies, flowing rhythms, and brilliant orchestration. The title evokes the gentle movement of the Danube River, whose sweeping currents are reflected in the music's elegant, undulating character.

Although originally written for orchestra, Donauwellen has been arranged for countless instrumental combinations, with the piano version becoming especially popular among amateur and professional pianists alike. The waltz alternates lyrical, expressive themes with lively dance passages, culminating in a brilliant and festive conclusion. Its memorable melodies and refined Viennese style have secured its place as a favorite in concert halls, salons, and educational piano collections around the world.
